PROTEST AGAINST BETTER ARMED POLICE

A couple of media outlets have covered the "outcry" by a small group of teenages over the departments plan to train and qualify officers to carry the M4 Carbine.
ABC7 uses an AP source on its web site.
Young people opposed to arming Chicago police officers with military assault rifles rallied at Chicago Police headquarters.

A group called the 'Live in Peace Campaign' says they delivered to Weis 5,000 signatures opposing
the idea

The Chi-Town Daily News contributes this gem.

A group of about 40 protestors from the Southwest Youth Collaborative chanted slogans like “Stop the war on the poor, no more M4s” outside of Chicago Police headquarters before the meeting, holding up signs as they paced in a large circle.

So that's what this is all about, "a war on the poor". Give me an f-ing break! You blame us for not preventing the innocent from being victims. You second guess us when we come across an armed offender who intends to do us harm and we stop him. Now you want to hamstring our abilities to defend ourselves and the citizens of this city against an ever increasing violent criminal element that is motivated by the drug trade. Why aren't you protesting the GDs, Stones, 4 Corner Hustlers, CVLs, SGDs, Dragons and Kings?

And here comes the best of all.

David Stout, 19, who lives in Lincoln Park, came to the meeting with a group of friends all concerned about police having M4s in their arsenal.
“It would generate such an atmosphere of fear that safety would be unattainable in the city,” Stout says.

Would you be afraid up in Lincoln Park David? You keep fighting for that "social justice" David. Why don't you and your friends take a walk along Chicago Ave between Pulaski and Cicero or on Roosevelt between Kedzie and Pulaski or Ashland from 51st to 87th. I'm sure you and your do-good friends would feel right at home. Actually, you would probably welcome the sight of a policemen or at least wished you had your own M4.

Off Topic: Looks like the Obama train just keeps on rolling strong.
He's picked up endorsements from the Tribune, of all places, along with the Sun Times and L.A. Times.
Among the reasons why cited in all endorsments was the short sighted selection of Palin as his VP choice. So much for "Country First!"

Wow,the State of Illinois infringes on my god given right to own and carry a weapon and these scum want to deny the police too??

The rifle program is a joke since most can't pass the test. And besides, who would want it? If you're qualified when the riots start, they will put you on a bus to stand in a sh*thole getting pelted with bricks and bottles by ghetto thugs. NO boss will give the order to fire, so forget about it.

Fear of the Police is exactly what we need here. And of course for shortshanks to have a grabber!!

They should really allow the residents of Chicago to own Assault-style rifles too. Why only the police? Some of the regular Joe's are probably better shots than most cops out there.

SCS.. (A New Topic)

The below post was on the Sergeant's Association Website:

FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW

It has come to my attention there are a few isolated rumors circulating that you should be aware of because it could drastically affect your current benefits. There are some misinformed individuals that are circulating information that the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A should be affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.)

This is being portrayed as simply changing the name from Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) to the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) – nothing could be more inaccurate or further from the truth. KNOW THE FACTS!

The recognized bargaining agent for the City of Chicago Police Sergeants’ is the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A The only way to change this is through a very tedious and expensive process known as DECERTFICATION. If the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A were to be decertified, then any other recognized labor organization would have the right to attempt to represent our members. This includes not only the F.O.P., but also TEAMSTERS, AFSCME, etc.

The most important fact is that your current contract and benefits could be in jeopardy. Currently, the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A has provisions and signed agreements in place with the City of Chicago that provide for your current contract provisions to remain intact while a new contract is being negotiated.

If your current Union were to be Decertified you risk loosing several benefits previously obtained by the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A through collective bargaining.

YOU RISK LOOSING BENEFITS SUCH AS:

* Supervisor Quarterly
* .75 an hour Rank Credit
* 200 hr sell back provision
* Automatic 25 (working) days vacation – regardless of service time.
* Any and all current protections in your existing contract.

In 1997, the Chicago Police Sergeants’ won the right to organize and to collective bargaining. An election was held and the membership overwhelmingly voted to be represented by the Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.). This led the way in 1998 to obtaining our first collective bargaining agreement (contract) with the City of Chicago. The benefits that we have today are the direct results of the efforts of the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association – Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B.& P.A.) - Unit 156A The above captioned benefits enjoyed by our members are not afforded to members of the F.O.P.

Any individual or group that purports to twist these facts or tell you anything differently is at best, misinformed, but more likely has a hidden agenda that is not in your best interest. KNOW THE FACTS!

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Chicago Police Sergeants’ Association. Cpsa_sgts@ameritech.net

Thats an understatement. Most coppers are terrible shots and need those 15-18 rounds to make a few hits.

Having worked several departments and being a range officer most dept brass do not take firearm proficiency seriously.

Please keep in mind that this is an open blog
that can and is read by people other than Chicago Police Officers.
