It's no surprise to Kurth that so many Chicago police are also military men and women. Soldiers and officers have common goals: to serve and protect.
"It's what's inside of you," he said Monday. "You're willing to help. You're willing to join in. You're looking for the bigger, common goal."

Thank You from a prior service Vet

God bless and a big thank you to all of you, I am proud to work with such a great group of veterans!!! A nice award, however, I truly think the City should give them extra points on any future tests this group takes.
Wow, a new ribbon for all you want-a-be mexican generals out there.
Does anyone know the criteria for this award? I'm not trying to be funny, I never heard of it before now. I'm thinking of officers who were in Vietnam and can they apply or be nominated?
Funny that you asked. Just the other day I was looking at the list of those who received this award and more than a few people I know qualified. One Viet Nam vet I know retired a few months back. I do recall that a qualified vet had to fill out a form. Im not 100% certain, but being a vet alone did not qualify you, you had to serve in a war zone. If anybody recalls the actual criteria please feel free to jump in. Is this a onetime award or does the department plan on issuing this award as new recipients enter the ranks of the CPD?
Who really cares about these ribbons? Come on a caps ribbon? A democratic convention ribbon? Such a joke.
