RANTS

In today's Sun-Times Fran covers the Mayors speech at the graduation of the new PPO's. The Mayor speaks of the new demands on supervisors.
During a police graduation ceremony at Navy Pier, Daley said his appointment of the first outsider to serve as superintendent in nearly 50 years signals big changes in the demands made on police supervisors

I was talking to another supervisor who attended the graduation and he brought up the mayors speech. Fran forgot to mention Daley's berating of the attending press for their unfair coverage of the good most police do versus the endless coverage of the misdeeds by a few.
I had also heard about the decentralizing of the department by the new superintendent. What does this mean? The elimination of units? The elimination of the DOC?
Whose heads will the new Superintendent axe? Since the mayor brings up supervisor accountability my guess would be Matt Tobias and Debra Kirby to start.

Matt Tobias would be a tremendous start!!! He's a pompous little critter....love that tailored leather jacket he wears!! Mabye he could be the full time CPD hockey coach?? He thinks he knows how to play hockey so give him the job. I have heard rumours that the new Sup may bring in one of his own to run IAD and/or be the 1st Deputy...if this happens...run for the doors because everything is off the hook so to speak!! I would personally like to see him improve the promotional process and diminish the city's percentage of meritorious to 10% across the board!! I would also like to see him make these "no bid" units open up to bids and make the percentage of merit 50% which would at least give the regular "working police" a chance to get into these units like narcotics, vice etc...I will even go out on a limb and suggest the changing of the uniform....I'd welecome a black uniform with embroidered name tags and star on the shirts...There will be many leaving the "freindly confines" of 35th St...Williams will go,McNulty will go,Christian will stay till...June/July,Kirby...she will "mold" herself into another position..,Maher will get demoted,Look for Commander Byrne from A/3 to go up,Look for Sodini to go up, Look for Price to go up, The "Screaming Skull" will not move, Look for Dugan to go up,Georgas will get demoted..Thank GOD!!,Look for Gulliford to go up,Look for the current commander of defunct SOS to be demoted,Grau will go up,E.Williams will stay where he is, Brown will be demoted,Look for Lt Moy to go up,Look for Commander "Flair" 08th Dist to be demoted, Look for Capt Bahmanedji to go up,Look for Capt Carroll to go up,Look for 011th Dist commander to go up,Look Kolman to retire,Look for Wysinger to go up,Look for Rottner to retire,Look for 20th dist commander to be demoted,Look for 23rd Dist commander to go up,Look for 19th Dist Commander to retire,Look for A.Stanley to be demoted or retire,Look for Andrews to be demoted,Look for J.Maloney to go up,Look for Lt Bauer to go up and many more...just some ideas...

Are you talking about the pompus Deb "I took no action to stop Finnegan and friends" Kirby? Why in the world would they get rid of such a vast wharehouse of police knowledge?

Sounds like 'Jody' should be seeking your input before he makes any moves..... unless you ARE Jody......

Triple merit Lucy, to go up...that would suck..

Stanley isn't close to 20 years, cant retire. She made commander with about 7 years on.

Jody doesn't know any of these people and he doesn't have the time to get to know them. Look for those older than Jody to get eased out. Those his age or younger will stay on until they step on themselves. Look for Jody to be very conscious of the "need" to maintain a demographic balance (race, gender, sexual orientation). Within two years (or earlier if the "scandals" continue), Jody will throw up his hands because he'll be way over his head and $600K richer. Not a bad deal: collect your govt pension and collect a salary from the city until you wear out your welcome. Then retire at 53 or 54 and run marathons.

Watch for the younger exempts to take up marathon running to get next to Jody. Ten bucks on Matt T to lay off the hockey and buy some running shoes.

If you made the "no bid" units biddable, you wouldn't get the "workers." I hate to break your heart but the people with the time to make those particular bids are not interested in working for the most part.

The "working police" don't have a shot especially when the "working police" get enough time to get away from the radio based upon a bid, their activity will drop to nothing after all "what can they do to me, I am bidded!"

It's the truth and a pipe dream that it would work like that.

Imagine a 30 year guy who could bid into a specialized unit. I could see the "I am done" attitude from here.

It sounds good but the reality will not allow it.

You can not motivate people to work when they get their spot by seniority.

The unit will become a sense of entitlement. You can see what I am talking about on some of the bidded positions in the districts.

Hi Chicago Sergeants,
Someone here was nice enough to give me a name & address for Officer Brittain's Commander. This morning I saw him, wished him a Merry Christmas & told him about the letter thinking he would have heard something by now. Uh, no dice.

I know everyone is busy including myself, but could perhaps his Sergeant can maybe call the guy, email or whatever just to say a 'thank you?" I feel so bad and next time I will avoid these people and just give a letter to the officer themself. Thank you very much.

Lt. Moy is a backstapping POS and always has been, F**Ked her way thru the academy, 18, and g*d knows where else. Another merit appointee who was too stupid to make it anyway other than on her back. . .

Who's the "screaming skull?" Inquirying minds want to know!

It seems that former supt Cline's legacy will be that he left "us", or stuck us with, a bunch of non skilled, micromanaging, buffoons. I was told that in A2 the sgts and lt's were told that they were to go out and "meet" and introduce themselves to all the alderperps in their districts. In A1 and A4commander "bag lady" and the screaming skull like to scream and threaten those who work with them. And for our great "hot chill peppers" chief, everyone knows her management skills are limited to yelling, screaming and attempting to belittle those around her. Hope she enjoys watching reruns of the muppetts in space when she is forced to retire.

Gulliford to move UP? HE, who was the COMMANDER OF SOS at the time teh scandal broke? QUIT DRINKING THE KOOL ADE, FRANCIS!!
Gulliford will only move OUT, not UP. Count on that. I can't believe he wasn't demoted when this mess broke, as his predecessor should have been also.
When you look at what happened to Matthews, it reminds you that the job isn't fair at all.

Georgas will get demoted..Thank GOD!!"

Yer drinkin' to much Kool-Aid.

Everyone knows whether the Pope or Adolph Hitler is made the superintendent, DALEY runs this corrupt show.

DALEY will have the last word on the 1st Deputy and Georgas will remain permanently attached to Daley's ass.

Wrong, I have worked for Lucy, she may have been meritorious but she is very intelligent, she basically ran management/labor affairs when Rosebrock was there. That unit is now in shambles, they are always asking her how things run, etc. she is good people.

Anonymous said...

What are you talking about??

Muppets in Space was a great movie.

Anonymous said...

You are quite correct, "anonymous"
(21 Dec, 6:20AM). Most 30 year vets don't do much in the units where they can bid into now. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be for a Sgt. in a specialized unit to try to motivate them. Most of their time would be spent documenting what they were NOT doing, so that they could be eased out for some more productive people. As it is now, we have some old timers here in NAGIS; most of them proudly do the job they are paid to do, but there are a few who walk around wearing the bust out look to the max, who
a) never volunteer to buy dope
b) don't even do a decent job of surveillance
I hope to God that the specialized units are kept exempt from the bid process.

umm...has anyone received their 2008 pocket books yet? They come in handy for us that work the street.

Anonymous said...

We'll get our 2008 pocketbooks when the new contract is signed.

Lucy Moy "intelligent"? If you think that you must be merit yourself. The only thing she is smart enough to do is to smile in your face while she stabs you in the back. Unless you have a gold star you are not worth her time or effort.

Anonymous said...

To the poster who seems to know everything. Any ideas of the futures of Patton, McCotter, and Skahill?

#1, Lucy is clueless. Is constantly giving Williams bad advice on interpretion of the contracts. Her advice on Lt. TP, formerly of 025 and now detailed to 017, will cost the taxpayers plenty of money.
#2, are the members of this organization so befuddled that they think the new supt is the least bit interested in OUR issues? He ain't here to make things better for us, people. He's here to keep the Justice Dept out of our house - plain and simple. New uniforms, less meritorious promotions, blah, blah, blah. Forget it. He's here to implement policy that has been established as "best practices" by the Justice Dept in the cities with consent decrees. Daley's cries about the Olympics is what got Weis here, not any desire to "reform" the place. The real issue is who will be the 1st deputy. That person will, once again, be the one to run the operations of the department.Weis doesn't know shit about a police department, wasn't hired to know it, and for $310,000 a year probably couldn't care less.
So quit smoking the funny stuff and come back to earth.

maybe they should just look at the officers activity and that should be on how he/SHE would do in a unit. if theres a strong work ethic give em a shot. if they haven't done shit well that just speaks for itself.... no bid just common sense

Isn't Stanley Stroger's niece or "play niece"? that explains the rise in stardom, not the smarts. Gotta love this job.

Patton and McCotter will retire shortly,Skahill will be around for quite awhile.

has anyone else noticed that the sgts assocication website has only been updated once or twice in the last two months- and nothing substantial in more than two months about the exam...

what are we paying dues for?

If Jody is smart, he will promote Patton and McCotter and keep Skahill as an advisor.

I must say that I am always impressed by a lieutenant or captain who fails to ask about the condition of an officer who was just forced defend himself and use force to arrest an offender who is resisting arrest in some fashon before they start giving you the third degree about the incident. Just how hard is it to ask, "Is the officer ok, is he/she injured." I have found that most watch commanders dont give a shit about the copper involved. They are just annoyed that they have to change their dam watch commanders log.

those places where that happens is dispicable, and makes me sick. our number 1 concern should be officer safety. i ve handled trr's and traffic crashes in 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12,13,14,21,and 22, in the last year, thx mostly to tara. i have not seen what you are claiming, not that it doesn t happen but i can guarantee any boss worth his salt should be asking that question first. just know there are plenty of us out there who concerned with officer safety.
Good luck and everyone have a safe and happy new year!!!!

What about the CO of the medical section?
