14 YEAR OLD DETAILED TO 003

What can I say that hasn't already been said over at SCC? At last glance the original post was at 469 comments. That's a lot of opinions, some are sarcastic and some are right on, while others are just plain hilarious. In the end its an embarrassment for the second largest police department in the United States. The officer that rode with the habitual impostor will be second guessed from top to bottom. She is definitely the easy target but lets not forget that the desk called her in to work with him. Will the sergeant who had the traffic car on his log be crucified? Where does the watch commander on 2nd watch fit in all this? What does this say about the quality of recruits that the academy has been producing when this kid can't even raise suspicion because he is no worse than past recruits sent to 3. Better yet how about the culture of our department that allows people to freely flow in and out of the station to conduct all sorts of business from bust out shoe shiners to Streets and San workers to swipe out. Security is nonexistent. In the suburbs 4 inches of bullet proof glass and key cards separate the police from the citizens but not here in Chicago.
There will definitely be a knee jerk reaction to this incident. I am not even going to guess on the discipline, if any, that will be taken. I only hope that a lone patrolmen and or a street level supervisor (sergeant) not be made the scapegoat in what can only be described as a monumentally embarrassing lapse in security.
Back in 1968 they chanted "The whole world is watching", and now in 2009 the whole world media from Australia, Germany. UK, Canada, Ireland and the rest of the US are reporting on this story. Does this put into question our ability to have a safe and secure Olympics? The 3rd District will never live this down.

By the way, this story made the Drudge Report, with its nearly 18 million hits a day.

How about we stop trying to find someone to blame and blame ourselves. Security is on us, we are the ones who are there and we are the ones that are going to hurt if we don't take responsibility.

Can't leave my name, but after 11 years as a Sgt., this incident shocks me, but it just shows how far this department has fallen. I apologize to the workers and the real police, but CPD is infested with cowards and pretenders. I left a great job 23 years ago because of my interest in law enforcement, crime and punishment, wrong versus right. It all comes down to work ethic. Who gives a shit about the contract? This posturing is nothing new. Once the city gives you your retro check, all the whiners will shut up. at least this 14 year old wants to be the police! I would rather have him in 8 years than the former gangsters, drug dealers, and shoplifters we have now.

I am retired and it made all of the Phoenix news casts. In fact, many of the announcers were laughing.
That is what you get when you have a politically correct and politically connected police department

"What does this say about the quality of recruits that the academy has been producing when this kid can't even raise suspicion because he is no worse than past recruits sent to 3"

The only thing I disagree with this comment is not only in 3 are some these useless recruits being sent to, but all over the city. Who the hell wants this job anymore. A once great cop told me along many years ago "I came on this job knowing the type of Police Officer I wanted to be, now I am the Police Officer they made me be" These people crap on us every chance they get, and enjoy doing it!! I will do nothing!!! This department has become a joke!! with Daley and J-Fed as the ringleaders.

The lies that are being told by our senior exempt members to coverup this fiasco are unreal. There will be alot of resignations when the truth surfaces and in time, it will.

They are keeping the kid locked up to keep him away from the media, press and the talk show circuit. Wait until the kid tells what he did on Saturday. The attorneys are going to have a field day with this mess.

Has anyone noticed that Superintendent Jody Weis has become the invisible man the last two days?

If no one takes 30 to 90 days for this you know they are sweeping it under the rug.

Take the time to look at this kid's rap sheet, and READ the narratives of his previous arrests. Hate to say it, but he is actually brilliant, in a criminal kind of way. He has a huge set of balls, and if someone had ever taken the time to work with him, I truly believe he would be an outstanding student, etc. It appears to me that he is your typical product of a disfunctional home and a school system that does not have the time or patience to work with him. Its a shame but it looks to me as if he has learned that negative behaviour is what gets attention, and I have seen this with alot of kids who are actually bright. It is a huge embarassment to the CPD, but this kid truly gets an A for effort!!! I am in no way sticking up for him, but it is obviously the fault of his family, the police dept. and especially the juvenile court system. It is also a shame that in this day, a kid like him will just get put on ritalin to shut him up. In ending, IMHO, he really does look alot older than 14. I came on at 25 and was still getting carded, even for smokes. Had to post my opinion here, as I feel that SCS's readers are a bit more mature and think more clearly.

To poster alleging cover-up. He is locked up and being held for 2 warrants and because he has been abandoned by his family. No where else to go. He can talk to the media all he wants,, the story is already out there.

It's about time that the Mayor addressed the worst public relations disaster in CPD history.

In this statement the Mayor stated that the offender had a "fake badge"; it is interesting how this directly contradicts the CPD version.

I also love how the media refers to this incident as having occurred last week. This is the old distance the damage, by making this fiasco a thing of the past.

Just wait until the entire truthful story surfaces and it will in due time.

Daley wants answers about fake cop

A clearly irked Mayor Richard Daley said today he is waiting for Police Supt. Jody Weis and other police officials to explain how a 14-year-old boy was able to impersonate a police officer for several hours last week before the fraud was discovered.

"The Chicago Police Department is seriously looking into how an individual at such an age, with a phony badge and a phony uniform - they thought it was Halloween - could come in without a gun and be assigned a locker and be assigned to a car and be out in the street for five hours with another patrol officer," the mayor said in his first extended remarks on the embarrassing incident.

"Where is the desk sergeant? The field lieutenant? The captain on duty? [It] will be required for Jody Weis and others to thoroughly investigate that and come up to the public about why, what happened."

Asked what he thought of the incident becoming fodder for national TV comics, Daley replied, "Well, I'm sorry, but things happen, both in government and your private sector and others. Things happen."

When will the Superintendent address this issue?

Anonymous said...

The Desk did not call her in to work with him. The Desk and the W/Cs office were both bypassed. This fraud job all took place near the radio room...down the hall.

Probably on Friday. He'll be back on Thursday from Washington where he's interviewing for a new job in the Obama administration.

I may have been misinformed. If so I stand corrected. Thank You

If JFed is really interviewing for a new position in DC, you have give him credit on knowing when to jump from a sinking ship.

I agree that the kid is brilliant. The cia should pick him up. Great undercover work, and with no formal training. Says quite a bit for all the obviously wasted money spent on our department training, huh?

When I first read the story I was shocked, but then when explained how the kid got the radio and was "introduced" to his partner it kinda made sense; a big, older looking 14 year old could pull this stunt off. Now, today, I read the kid was 5 fuckin 3 inches tall!! No excuse at all for this. NONE

Word from the Hall is that Daley has already given up on Weis, and is quietly seeking a replacement NOW. Talk of former Deputy Supt. Thomas Byrne being asked to jump back in and take the helm before the CPD becomes a full blown Titanic.
