I would like to share this email and picture that I received from a fellow sergeant.
Dear SCS,
I am a sergeant from an outside unit that worked the 7th district Monday night. I decided to travel up Hermitage on the 6000 block when I spotted a makeshift memorial at the edge of a vacant lot. I exited my vehicle to take a picture and to take a moment to reflect. I saw an erected wooden cross with 6-01-2009 written in black marker and a picture of murdered Police Officer Alex Valadez cut out from a newspaper and duct taped to the top. Flowers and various stuffed animals lay around the cross. As I returned to my car an older women came out of her house and wished me a good evening.
You have to remember that even in a place like Englewood there are people that appreciate what we do, its too bad that it takes the tragic murder of a young Police Officer for us to see it.
Thanks for the email sarge.

So very sad, and this officer is correct. Sometimes it is hard to imagine but there are good people everywhere and assholes everywhere too.
Off topic: What the heck is going on with the slew of Exempts (oops, I meant to say "Command Staff") who are putting in their papers recently? Has the stress of working under Supt. Waterhead finally cracking the morale of the Gold Stars? Have they had enough of WEISel's and Mayor Daley's BS?
I Grew up in West Englewood. For every animal like the one who took the life of P.O.Valadez,there are hundreds of good people just trying to live their lives and survive. My family left in the mid 80's. I still have freinds and family in the neighborhood. Some are very critical of 007th District officers,Most realize the difficulty of policing a neighborhood like Englewood and appreciate the service they provide.Until the honest, hard working residents stop living in fear and stand up against the savages and animals among us,Officer Valadez's memorial is just the first of many this summer. Most of whom will probably be children and other innocent people.
God Bless those who took the time to erect this memorial for Officer Valadz. There always good people EVERYWHERE. Just sometimes they get over shadowed by the ones that aren't.
Very nice. very respectful.
There are some good people in Englewood...
Thank You Sergeant.
I know that all types exist. Not just in 007. 016 and just about any other distict you can name.
Even retired Sgts. understand humanity.

And of course, always one fucking idiot with a negative comment. Must be the usual retard cop who hate his job, his wife, his kids, has no friends and still drinking in moms basement. STFU asshole and stay off the blog
We must realize that most do appreciate and know they need the police but are a silent majority. If it's difficult to work in Englewood it is harder to live there.
