The officer is lucky he survived this encounter.
There is much that can be learned from this video and before long it will be used by various agencies for training purposes. Jeff Chudwin will probably use it in his "Use of Force" instruction.
This is a perfect example of why you should carry off duty and why we give each other professional courtesy.

About this shooting, thank God the copper's ok and bad guy put down. You ain't kiddin, lots to be learned from that video clip.
remember don't leave home without your weapon thank God that off duty detective was armed

And to think, many Chiefs of Police don't want their retired POs carrying weapons, even after the Federal law says we can- thank God for the off-duty Cop in this case.
