Five alleged gang members, including three brothers, were charged with attempted murder Monday for the weekend stabbing of an off-duty Chicago Police officer outside a Lincoln Park bar.

Anthony Borias, 24, of Downstate Genoa, is suspected of stabbing the officer in a fight outside the Deja Vu bar in the 2600 block of North Lincoln.

The off-duty officer and his friends, along with Borias, his two brothers and two others left the bar about 4 a.m. Sunday. That's when Borias and his group began yelling taunts at the officer, police said.

Police say the officer said he didn't want any trouble, but when it was over, he had been stabbed twice by the suspect, knocked to the ground and beaten. And Borias had been shot by the officer. Both remained hospitalized Monday.

Borias, brothers Nicholas V. Borias, 23, and Joseph Borias, 26, both of Chicago; David Podgorski, 23, of Chicago, and Vincent J. Munday, 21, of Elmwood Park, were charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Excellent work by A3 Detectives and a couple of guys from the Technical Sevrices Unit out of Homan Square. Metcalf and Bonidora did a great job with video assist. When it's caught on tape, call these guys.

Unbelievable restraint by the P.O. He would have been justified in shooting all of them. I hope that his "friends" who were with him and ran away were'nt the police

What kind of bar was it? Rumor had it as an alternative lifestyle place? Maybe add possible hate crime charges?

this isn't the first time this cop has been involved in an off duty incident involving drawing his gun on unarmed civilians. Seems a little gun happy to me.

I saw the four mopes (one was still in hospital) down in the bullpen at 26/Cal. Their clothes had been taken as evidence and they had on at most paper coveralls, socks and some had shoes. They were surrounded by a sea of very unfriendly faces with a look of "what the hell have we gotten into now." It was a good thing to witness.
And of course the on duty CC sherriffs were duly informed of who they had. May they rot in that place.

The PO only could get one shot off, they took his gun and threw it across the street instead of shooting him with it. He's very lucky.

Remember, nothing good happens at 4 in the morning.

The nieve boys involved in this crime have decent families and are "trying" too hard to be little thugs. I hope they all grow up.

I unfortunately know these men. I grew up with all but 1. The truth about these men is that they are truly not good people. The Borias brothers come from a broken home with a crack-head mother and gang-banging father. I know the podgorski boys older brother, who also has his run ins with the law, (ie statutory rape). The munday boy has a call girl for a sister and clearly has a need to be wanted, even if its by these horrible excuses for human beings. Rot away, and never come back.

Please keep in mind that this is an open blog
that can and is read by people other than Chicago Police Officers.
