Obviously, P.O.'s percentages would go the other way. Lt's are at the tailend of their careers and have a vested interest in keeping Chicago house prices sable, for when they sell.

I don't think the PO's or Sgt's or Det's are willing to lose the value in their homes. Who could afford for their home to go from 400,000 to 150,000 overnight? That is exactly what will happen.

There are only 30,000 city employees total. There are probably less than 20,000 homes owned by those employees. Far less than half would move. Your home value wouldn't change a bit.

Are you saying that freedom to live where we want would bring back real actual demand vs. artificial demand for housing?

What exactly does this point tell you about the real value of your home? It's bullshit value, that's what it is. Artificial demand created on the backs of your co-workers=artificial home values!

Eventually your $500,000 2 bedroom purchased for $100,000 or less will not be able to be sold for $500,000 because the new guys won't be able to afford it. You won't be able to screw the new guys into buying that P.O.S.

It's already bad enough that the new guys can't afford it but when they finally do purchase a home, they are paying a bigger percentage of their income than you did along with those high college bills.

Higher housing values at the expense of your co-workers are wrong!

Remove Residency Requirements NOW!

You would still have to live in Cook County. So please tell me which decent suburb in Cook County doesn't have inflated home value? It would be nice to live in Lincolnwood or Park Ridge, but it isn't any cheaper. In fact it is more expensive in the places you probably want to live. I don't think you'll be able to purchase a home any easier in any Cook County suburb worth living in. There are lots of deals in Maywood, Berkley, and Stone Park. Don't give up Pay to move to Ghetto burbs.

Maybe I want to live in Cicero, Maybe I want to live in Maywood.

The where else would you live argument is put forth by a lot of people who are in favor of residency restrictions. The way I look at it is why should you care where else there is to go. Let me worry about that.

My point is that I should be able to live there. At least the price I pay for suburban communities is actual value of people wanting to buy houses there NOT people wanting to buy there because they are restricted to the corporate boundaries of the city. When you have people who have to live in corporate boundaries all trying for the same area vs. people who actually want to live there is the difference between real value and artificial value.

Ford Heights, here I come (if I want to).

I hope that what I have read concerning this subject was not posted by Lt.'s on this job. If so we are in worse shape than I thought concerning any kind of informed leadership. Don't actually try to find out any facts, just keep making your decisions concerning your biggest asset on the old wives tales. If you really think you need to go to the burbs I don't think anyone will stop you. But there is nothing wrong with finding your dream job out there also.

Good Luck to all those who wish to leave, but please no adverse comments about those of us who wish to remain. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live in a good community with in the city. There is also nothing wrong with keeping our tax dollars in our own communitites.

Please keep in mind that this is an open blog
that can and is read by people other than Chicago Police Officers.
