NIU TRAGEDY

The Tribuneheadline reads as
"NIU shooting leaves 6 dead, 16 wounded"
Should read "5 unarmed students murdered and 16 wounded, murderer then commits suicide". That is truly what happened.
Sadly politicians will make political hay out of these senseless murders.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Jeez, if these liberals wont let
people protect themselves, can Coppers at least train their kids and be legal to carry before we send them off to school?
Even our kids in Iraq can defend themselves. You work hundreds of hours of overtime to send your kid to college and they're murdered, what a f*cken joke...

Hi SCC,

This tragedy certainly shows why protecting constitutional protections with respect to the right to bear arms is such a critical issue.

Going to another topic. Boy was it a hoot to read Sneed's column today! It looks like SNEED is on to something. She has indicated that the top echelon of the Chicago Police Department's senior staff are on their way out the door. As I predicted Supt. Weis would have to almost completely clear out the senior staff to move the department forward. I still stand by my original statement that Charles Williams is going to land on his feet. He will probably pick up a job in the Office of the Inspector General for Homeland Security. Supposedly they are salivating over his experience in conducting very intricate and complex corruption investigations. His superbly conducted investigations of Joe M and Gloria S are being used as a textbook examples at various seminars involving corruption investigations. If I had half of Charles Williams experience and knowledge I would hit the road and do seminars. He could easily pull down in excess of $500,000 per year as a consultant if he is willing to assume a grueling travel schedule.

You guys/gals can be sure that in three years the CPD will be a remarkable, cutting edge, professionalized law enforcement agency. I have also heard that the Maywood Police Department is looking at bringing on an outside consultant who recently retired from the US Department of Justice. Get ready for an exciting ride.

Guys/Gals if you want your Lieutenant's bar and can take a polygraphy exam apply to IAD. You will work with various federal agencies and conduct complex investigations using Title Three Intercepts, mail covers, and other evolving techniques. You can end up working with everyone from the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Postal Inspection Service, to the Department of Labor OIG. The latter agency is relatively unknown but with the FBI and IRS/CID we conduct some of the most productive organized crime investigations ever prosecuted.

I really envy you guys/gals because soon you will be plank owners in a dramatic turnaround of a major law enforcement agency. Stay safe and GOD Bless the CPD. JFED Rules!

I graduated from NIU in '76 before coming on the job in '78. Its a great place and DeKalb always had a small town feel to it. Its really sad. Those students in Cole Hall never had a chance. The atmosphere is like we felt after 9/11. DeKalb wont be the same.

The Keesing Bandit says---

"...if I had half of Charlie Williams experience and knowledge..."

Right. If I had half of Charlie Williams' education, I'd be fingerpainting in 6th grade.

Former Beat 222, your comments are getting old and tiresome. But, for now.....

Kees me you fool!!!

I hope your right Mr. Fed former beat222 driver. But in any event, at least he got rid of SOME of the dead weight today.

Another mental with a gun. Why does the state keep releasing all these nuts out onto the streets?

"The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside … Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them."

"Another mental with a gun. Why does the state keep releasing all these nuts out onto the streets?"

Because Thompson dumped them out of the state insitutions and closed most of the facilities. There isn't much real mental health help for the population at large, let alone state financed.

He was never in a 'state' institution nor was he committed by a court. He was only given medication for depression, which he stopped two weeks ago.

And since many of your fellow police officers are being treated for depression-some estimates are that up to a third of the department is on some sort of medication-it's stupid to think that just because he was depressed he did this.

Obviously, something wasn't caught early enough or he was smart enough to conceal his inner thoughts. It's extremely rare for a male to be diagnosed as a "cutter" so that really should have been watched and explored. I think the fact that his mother was dying of ALS and passed on in 2006-just might have distracted his family from what was going on with him. Especially since it appeared he was doing well at school.

Please keep in mind that this is an open blog
that can and is read by people other than Chicago Police Officers.
