LTs AND 55

Via CPLA website:

AGE 55 RETIREMENT PLAN

You have all heard about the FOP agreement regarding early retirement with medical coverage. We have had quite a few calls from Lieutenants requesting more information. We are meeting with the City attornies on 29 July 2009. At that time we hope to iron our a few problems that we have had with the City proposal. The plan we have been working on is similar to the FOP plan but has a few differences. We will have more information for you after our next meeting.

Any idea how many Lt's would take the offer?

One for sure!!!!

City reportedly expects about 1/3 of the officers eligable to take it . That would mean 10 Captains, 20-25 Lts. and about 50 Sgts de[ending on years on the job. Not all are maxed out. And about 125 P.O.'S

They may actually have to promote a few Sgt's to Lt.

I think there is going to be a mass exodus of Captains. Maybe Lts. also. I think the average age of the Capts. is significantly higher than that of the Lts. There are a lot of young Lts. out there.

This is a ruff guess after looking at the ages and years on the job of how many sgt’s could be eligible to leave if the 55 and out will pass. Now, I cannot speak for each individual situation these are just numbers base off of age and years on the job. Within two years as many as 210 sgt’s would be eligible to retire with this new plan. This number does not include sgt’s that could and will be promoted depending on how this 55 and out will affect the higher ranking members leaving also within the department. This is only my opinion, but with the current economy I do not see the mayor paying to give three new testing exams (det, sgt and lt) so for individuals on the list who are on fence with being promoted I think this is a good list and time to be on the fence. I would say the promotion will happen just give it time, more time then we would want.

Hate to tell everyone but the 55 and out does not apply to any supervisors, yet.

Check your stats again-you really need someone to show how to use the business crystal report feature on iclear.

Hate to tell you....It will by the end of business on the 29th.

55 with medical benefit will not apply unless the ENTIRE contract is ratified....for both sergeants and lieutenants...if you want the 55 medical care you may have to kiss arbitration goodbye!

So-let's wait and see what the contracts say....would you be willing to trade a decent wage package or discipline consessions for medical care for a few people?

Find out what the contract says first - the CPSA website states says they'll post the entire document and soon as they can...

Hate to tell both of you-not at the end of busines on the 29th-and not yet- check out the CPSA website- the only way we get the 55 and medical care early retirement is if we approved the contract offer as is-without arbitration. A straight out yes vote for the contract.

Let's hope the CPSA did well.

for all you new sgts....just ratify this deal whatever it is and let FOP get the raises for us..do you really think there will be no "me too" clause on wages..do you think if if they got a 10% raise (just an example) they would allow that kind of a wage compression between P.O.'s and Sgt's..I don't think so. Just think of all the unit spots opening and summer furlos..I want out N O W

good source city offers 2% a year for a 5 year contract with supervisors and it includes retro

lts board members have rejected the city offer ? What gives?

Anonymous said...

lts website says that they're post something after their 4 aug meeting.....but it's 6 aug and no update...

What are they doing? Outsourcing to India for the updates?

go to arbitration
what do you have to lose
remember city wants to save $$$$$ with the 55 health insurance roll the dice

"what do you have to lose

Actually, we have 55 and medical care paid for to lose.

They've already saved the moeny they wanted to with the P.O.s-they don't have to give it to supervisors-that's why they've built it in the agreement that if we don't ratify the contract, the offer is recinded.

follow the lt board decision to reject this offer
demand a pay raise like other city workers remember the other unions received 4 % for the next 4 years
most receive an 80% pension
demand supervisor's quarterly checks are pensionable and retroactive remember FOP won the duty availability for us not pbpa
nothing to lose by voting no
all police officer should be in the same union

"...follow the lt board decision "

We're sergeants- not lieutenants- and have a different union for a reason- our interests are not the same as theirs.

And I'm not following the lts board to do anything- when the ten hour pilot program came along-they made a decision for the lts in the pilot districts without even consulting them- so now the lts can't be wc for the four hours between midnights and days at all-which hurt them in the wallet!

The offer of fifty-five and out with medical care affects more of the sergeants and captains than it does lts.

Bottom line- wait until we see what the sergeants union has as an offer beore anyone makes a decision.

Think for yourself and don't be lead by the malcontents in another union.

sergeants run the districts
lieutenants are usually detailed out as watch commanders
why do we need captains if lieutenants do the job half the time it's draining the pension

The Lt's association was working on a similar plan to the FOP? That is a F^)*^&)(^($ laugh! The FOP did all the work and you grabbed on.
