The Audacity To Complain!

On occasion we've chimed in on the illegal immigrant issue but this story out of Carpentersville pisses me off. It seems the village has decided to impound vehicles that are driven by unlicensed or uninsured motorist.
You drive a car without a license you are in violation of:

625 ILCS 5/6‑101(b) No person shall drive a motor vehicle unless he holds a valid license or permit, or a restricted driving permit issued under the provisions of Section 6‑205, 6‑206, or 6‑113 of this Act.

You drive a car without insurance you are then in violation of:

625 ILCS 5/7‑601(a) No person shall operate, register or maintain registration of, and no owner shall permit another person to operate, register or maintain registration of, a motor vehicle designed to be used on a public highway unless the motor vehicle is covered by a liability insurance policy.

So whats the problem?
Alarmed by what they said was another ordinance aimed at Latinos, about 400 demonstrators gathered Tuesday night at Carpentersville Village Hall to protest a proposal to impound the vehicles of drivers pulled over without a valid license or proof of insurance.

Outside Village Hall on Tuesday night, Laura Zambrano, who ran unsuccessfully for trustee in the April election, said the latest proposal in Carpentersville was dismaying.

"These are crazy ideas," Zambrano said. "I hate to use the word 'discrimination,' but these ideas seem to target the same community over and over."

I say hooray to Carpentersville.
In the first place, uninsured motorist create higher premiums for insured motorist. In the second place, driving is a privilege not a right. Those who choose not to prove their proficiency are not granted the privilege to drive. When an individual chooses not to obey these laws it appears that the Village of Carpetersville will take away the tool of their lawlessness. Ms. Zambrano seems to think this is a crazy idea.
Lets get something straight! The illegal immigrant broke the law the day he crossed the boarder and he continues to violate the laws of various states and municipalities every time he drives. It's about time that existing laws are enforced and additional penalties are created to persuade the violators to comply.
