The main reason these so-called "men of the cloth" are trying to stir up the outrage over the police shootings is that they are trying to defer the blame to us instead of who is really to blame for the failure of these young black men--no black family involvement.

What we are clearly seeing is the Balkanization of Chicago. Just as Alderman Eddie Burke and Eddie Vrdolyak during the Harold Washington adminsitration whipped up lower and middle class whites into a hysteria to remain politically viable. Black ministers and political leaders are doing the same and finding it easier to focus on the killings of armed felons than the juvenile prenancy rate, the burgeoning drug trafficking business in their communities, and the just sad appearance of those communities.
Mayor Richard J. Daley created the Hispanic Democratic Organization to perpetuate his reign. In turn these communities are creating an issue. They are making an issue out of the deaths of thugs who continue to victimize their communities. These guys are making martyrs out thugs. These thugs cannot be compared to Dr. King, Malcolm X, Fannie Lou Hamer, or Nelson Mandela.
A strident and vocal minority of ministers in the West Side and South Side Black Communities are whipping up fear and hysteria over cops shooting armed felons to remain relevant. To bad they can't harness morale outrage among their constituents to address the sad black on black crime rates and lack of pride that affects this community on a day to day basis. Police shootings I might add of armed thugs don't happen on a daily basis. These guys don't have the will or vision to come up with unique and actionable plans to get young black males off the street and doing useful things in the community. The thought of using their parishioners tithes to provide viable employment and educational opportunities to their very own young black males just does not come up for discussion. Too bad the ministers cannot get in front of the issue and prevent their own young black men from getting shot by marshaling them into productive activities like cleaning up the community, providing support to elderly residents, and mentoring each other so that young black men will not do foolish stuff like pointing weapons at the police.
Rather than using all that energy to protest a few thugs being killed by the police why not harness the outrage into productive activities. Let the churches start Civil Aviation Patrol Chapters, Boy Scout Troops etc. to get young boys off the streets. Why not have community business leaders start athletic leagues and academic challenges. Maybe Wallace's Catfish Corner can start or sponsor a boxing or basketball league during the summer. Perhaps the good Father Mike can focus all that righteous energy of his on creating a summer long tutoring program to help raise the SAT and ACT scores among at risk youth in the community.
Bottom line is that all of the ills that force unemployed and socially disenfranchised young black men into confrontations with the police can be cured by community resouces marshaled before problems develop. As a beat car driver on triple deuces it amazed me when we would get calls for police service at domestics when clearly there was not a police issue to be solved. It would have been nice to see one of the community's pastors come to resolve the issue instead of the police.
Citywide what is needed is serious and sober thinking black, white, and hispanic residents/voters of the city to vote for a political leadership that arises from the business community. A leadership that knows the sting of tax increases. A leadership that is aware that sufficient community resouces exist to combat the challenges that each community face. No more tax dollars being thrown at an issue. Want to clean up Madison Ave west of Damen, get community residents organized and funded by churches to do it. Want to neuter the Latin Kings on North Avenue, get community leaders to offer alternative activities and employment. Scared of gang recruitment in Old Orchard, get businesses to start Lacrosse leagues etc.
If we want Chicago to continue down the same dumb path as the old Balkan Republics. You we continue electing politicians who have no experience raising money for a business or being responsible for providing folks with salaries. Guys like Mayor Daley, Alderman Burke, County Commisioner Beavers, and Congressman Guitierrez are all alike despite their differing racial and educational backgrounds. They have never been responsible for starting a business and sustaining one. They have all benefitted from the public breast. These guys are linked by the same avarice, greed and desire for power, as the Pimping Ministers coalition.
Want to see a real Mayor. Like at Mayor Bloomberg of New York. He is rich enough that he does not have steal or consort with thieves and morons. Based on his success in business he has addressed some of New York's ills with bold and dynamic proposals. Mayor Bloomberg does not hesitate to ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth. Look at Corey Booker of Newark. That guy challenged the black community of Newark to drop the old racial pandering politics of his now indicted predecessor.

Yesterday by the lake front Fiesta Del Sol and a triatholan were taking place, not to exclude traffic from the White Sox game. The OEMC or TMA whatever you want to call them had traffic all fucked up, I swear they were the ones causing all of the traffic jams. I swear they looked like they dont have a clue on how to direct traffic.Then to top it off I hear a siren appeoaching my location and expected to sse a police vehicle and lo and behold it was a TMA vehicle with blue and green lights and a siren, driving like they were going to a 10-1. Then the other day I also saw a regular blue streets and San tow truck with yellow mars lights sounding off a siren and blowing through red lights at intersections. Excuse me but arent these two situations in violation of state law? Hey FOP I believe you should have a sit down with the city and remind them that there is only one city agency with peace officer powers in Shitcago and that is the CPD.

Where is the FOP lawsuit to stop the TMA from directing traffic? You used to have policemen directing traffic from the detail unit and from the districts. What happened to the Boston proposal to have off-duty time-and-ahalf police officers directing traffic?

Hold FOP accountable,instead of getting OT on our days off we have civilians playing police with blue lights and directing traffic. They are taking away police officer jobs.
Next you will have civilians doing all the parking ticket enforcement, vehicle tows,traffic crash reports,inventories,311 reports,etc.
It is your union's job to ensure that sworn officer's positions are maintained. They are complicit in letting our jobs go civilian,there is not enough manpower and they are saving money by having civilians do our jobs.
The viable solution is to vote out the entire standing FOP and replace them,attend FOP meetings,organize and become involved in the process.
There are individuals capable of hacking and trapping wire intercepts on the CPD. Would they actually risk Federal prosecution for intel gathering?

"The people" would have packed the street to confront the cop who fired the shots, as they did after the recent police shooting involving Aaron Harrison, 18.
Yet, it isn't the out-of-control cops who regularly kill black children.
According to the Chicago Police Department, so far this year there have been 27 police-involved shootings -- 12 of them fatal. Of the 27 police shootings, 10 involved persons 19 years old and under.
During that same period, 1,253 persons were shot by random civilian gunfire. Of that number, 410 victims were 19 years old and under. The total number of fatal shootings in this age group was 44. Also, four teenagers were bludgeoned, four were stabbed, one was burned to death and four others were killed by an unknown weapon.
Chicagoans like Patrice Brown's grandmother are begging authorities to do more.
"The police need to clean this block out," Darlene Brown said after the shooting. "These people are just rowdy. They walk down the street selling their drugs and shooting their guns; they just don't care."
They have not cared for a long time.

I'll tell you why there are civilians doing police jobs for those of you who asked. Its because policemen either won't do the job because they think its not important enough for them or its beneath them or its not "real police work" whatever that may be. Traffic control isn't necessarily a police job, OTOH, when police were doing it, much of the time I couldn't find the assigned officers on their posts, they'd forget their traffic/parking books, forget their hats, whine about the weather, their feet, their backs, their indigestion, their periods - anything to try and get off-post or excused early. As a senior supervisor, I've looked as many an activity report for a 6 month period and more often than not found less than 1 ticket a month. Many times only 1 parker and no movers and before someone says it, no other activity either. This is the activity of a working policeman who simply doesn't do traffic because he rather be out looking for "bad guys", this is the activity of someone who wants everyone to know she/he's the police but doesn't want to do anything more than pickup his/her paycheck because the Supt an asshole, Dana's a racist, only the clout babies get ahead, and the public hates us. Pick an excuse, any one will do to justify the fact that many of us shouldn't be wearing the uniform and long ago betrayed the public trust.
Supervisors can no longer supervise without being subjected to personal attack, bosses can't set standards, incentives (quotas) are forbidden (why I can't imagine, except that you want to set the lowest possible standard for the Dept.). You gossip about things you know nothing about, make up rumors just for the fun of it, no matter how hurtful, offensive, or damaging to the reputation of another officer or supervisor, repeat stories when you have no idea whether that are true or false and just generally set out to destroy each other with reckless abandon.
The civilians, whether dispatchers, traffic aids, meter maids, timekeepers, whatever are for the most part taking jobs that most police officers don't want, refuse to do, are unable to do or "charge" too much to do.

I strongly disagree with you on this statement. There are just as many complainers and loafers in the civilian ranks,probably more. The civilian CPD employees have AFSCME on speed dial and are ready to file a union grievance at the slightest notion. You must not supervise civilian CPD employees,try disciplining one. You think that the FOP protects miscreants,tryout AFSCME and see where your disciplinary action goes.
My point is still valid and that is that the City of Chicago is replacing sworn officer positions with do-nothing,lesser paid civilians. Where is the FOP?

You obviously lack in the leadership department and seem to have too weak of a self-image to be an effective supervisor. If your feelings get hurt doing your job you are in the wrong position Sir.

Not sure why you have so much trouble motivating your troops, my Officer’s do what I ask them to do and what I tell them to do.
I do agree that there is too much whining and snitching on these sites, you’re a perfect example with your post.
The problem with the TMA’s is that under the MCC only the SWORN Police had the authority to direct traffic, richie undermined that authority to hire these quacks. The more jobs he gives out the more votes he gets.
They screw up traffic everywhere or just use the lights and hide.
We don’t charge to do any job, we are paid a rate determined by contract, and we can’t negotiate to work Traffic details at a lower rate. You would understand this if you knew what you were talking about.
As far as activity if I see that parkers are needed I call a car over and request them to write the tickets, some guys I have to check on, most of them just do it. Sometimes if I have to, I sit right there. Most of my guys are professional and do their job as expected. I also do my job and watch out for them. I have to give them the freedom to do it their way and not complain when they do.
