PBPA VS. FOP

The issue has come up again. Should the Sergeants Association be PB&PA or should the members decertify and become a separate lodge of FOP.
From one of the comments
We would have OUR OWN Lodge as in:
"CHICAGO POLICE SERGEANT'S LODGE #10" It would be the same local Chicago Police Sergeant's Association ie; Pallohusky/Cosgrove running the lodge NOT LODGE #7 / Donahue and Co.

The FOP has a stronger voice in Washington and Springfield. The PBPA does NOTHING for us. We pay them $43,000 a year for NOTHING. Ask BUSH or Blagojevich if they know who the PBPA is and they don't have a clue.

The city still must recognize the contract which expires 30 June. The question is would that contract be null and void if the PBPA is decertified.

I am not going to take a stand one way or another. I can see both points on this one.
I personally thank Pallohusky/Cosgrove for doing a job that evidently no one else wanted to do. The easiest thing to do is bitch. I am a member of both FOP and PBPA.
My opinion will be limited on this one.

Teamsters, the only real choice.

Change? Why? Nothing will be different! Same guys running the union and same piece o'shit city not giving a damn about us......why bother? Also, the FOP told us they DIDN'T want us when we first got our own "union", so screw them! Nothing will change, we'll still get the same offers/deals as we do now.

I went to Washington D.C. for the memorial last year. I spoke to about 50 or 60 coppers from out of state/ New York etc.

NOBODY ever heard of the PBPA. It's time to go FOP. As long as we keep the same team of Pallohusky/Cosgrove running the program it would benefit us all.

The state FOP lodge AND Lodge #7 will give us the go ahead.

All unions are the same. They do nothing in the long run except take your money. They only handle the most PP beefs.

IUPA will be the new influence in Washington

The FSLA suit regarding use of comp time was pushed by Cleveland PD represented By IUPA not FOP

FOP jumped on the band wagon like they always do

What happened to the Social Security Act that FOP had more than enough sponsors for the last four years.....

Has the national FOP changed their mind??? Way back when lodge 7 tried to screw us, the National stuck by lodge 7, stating we couldn't have a seperate losge.

Ccall the pension board @ 312-744-3891 and voice your displeasure at how the mayors nephew is raiding our pension fund.

that is because the national will do whatever lodge 7 wants we are the largest fop in the national that is why nolan could have allowed the sgt's to have their own lodge but used the national to enforce a one only lodge per city when the national could have looked the other way same bullshit

stay with PBPA and make it stronger take over FOP and get rid of those money hungry morons

Regarding the Sun Times article about Daley's nephew and his real estate deal. (The story is at:)

http://www.nbc5.com/news/14178256/detail.html

I was at the Sgt's Meeting last Thursday. John Gallagher the
Executive Director stated that if we they kept with conservative investments the pension fund would be broke in 30 years. (Approximately 2037)

Therefore, it was more important to invest in higher yielding / high risk funds such as this. Also, we and the city must eventually pay more into the fund.

The hardheads that ran the FOP and the respective organizations for supervisors back in the day said each other was lying. FOP said we'd run our own affairs, our leaders said we'd be lumped in with FOP and would have Police Officers dictating policy.

Well, had we opted to go with FOP years ago, there would have been ONE FOP Lodge #7. Any FRATERNAL issues would have been decided by the entire lodge - since the Police Officers outnumber us 9 to 1, we supervisors would have had our voices diluted and the police officers would basically run the show....on FRATERNAL MATTERS ONLY!!

On CONTRACTUAL matters however, each bargaining unit would have stood alone. Police Officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains would have each had their own independent bargaining unit within Lodge #7 to negotiate with.

So both sides were right....both sides were wrong. From my point of view, I wish we would have gone with the FOP. We would have had the second floor of the building on Washington, access to all the FOP files and staff, would not have had to purchase a separate building, and with the savings, could afford to give our leadership at least D-4 pay for the aggravation of running the show.

Its going to be funny next year. Now you will have to shoot that snub nose revolver to qualify. Those house mouses will really have the most trouble.

A great point!! As it stands now NO ONE wants the jobas president. that's why our current president just keeps working at Area 4 / 1st watch. A damn shame for the money WE pay in dues.

From a previous post: A Sgt. complained because the pizza meeting was a joke:
---------
Response:

Why? Because you didn't get any free pizza? Wouldn't it be easier just to put your uniform on and say you are making a pickup from the desk.
************

You know what asshole? For the $25.00 we pay PBPA in dues we should get some scraps thrown our way.
You call the PBPA and more than half the time it's the answering service because our president is busy working AREA 4-midnights.

They've always had too, nothing has changed in that regard.

NYPD is PBPA in re Mon Sep 24 07:05 pm. Most major east coast cities are PBPA, Philly is FOP. PBPA is a sub group for the second largest police union in the US. Do you know the name of the parent group?

First, no major east coast cities (and certainly not New York) are PBPA. In New York, it's The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York, Inc. (PBA). NOT the Patrolmen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois. The two are NOT the same. The PB&PA tops out at the Illinois PB&PA. There is no national PB&PA. PB&PA is NOT affiliated or a part of any PBA.

Just because you copy part of someones name, doesn't mean you are part of them. I may change my name to "Daley", but it doesn't make me his nephew.

Now you will have to swipe your ID. In the past certain desk personnel would just call the range and get qualified over the pax.

Why don't we open the floor on seeing who benefits us more, FOP PBPA, then vote on the issue, you can always sell a building

PB&PA is affiliated with NYPD's PBA and almost every other major city's unions through NAPO. At least know what your talking about before you post. Check out NAPO's web site at www.napo.org. You also might might want to look at who the Executive Board of NAPO is - now who's the asshole?

You still are.
PBPA is affiliated with NAPO as just about ALL police unions are.

The PBPA is NOT affilated with the PBA, FOP, the Teamsters or the United Auto Workers for that matter.

Just do your police crap and leave the the union stuff to people who know what they are talking about.

Please keep in mind that this is an open blog
that can and is read by people other than Chicago Police Officers.
