SUPREME COURT TO HEAR DC GUN BAN CASE

D.C. gun case may hit Chicago
City's law is next target if foes win in Supreme Court

On Tuesday, the district government appealed the decision to the Supreme Court. If the court takes the case, as many observers believe it will, it could place Chicago's handgun ban, as well as similar laws nationwide, in jeopardy.

At a news conference Tuesday on the steps of the district's police headquarters, Mayor Adrian Fenty said the city had no choice.

"In the end, the bottom line is that we do not need more guns in this city," said Fenty, flanked by more than a dozen police officers. "The only possible outcome with more handguns is more violence."

As an example of the urgency of the situation, district officials cited the death Sunday of a teenager who was shot by a 15-year-old in a struggle over a handgun. Five people were killed in the district in close to a 24-hour period over the weekend. In Chicago, the homicide rate is down this year by almost 8 percent compared to a year ago, according to the Chicago Police Department, which credits, among others things, an active effort to keep handguns off the streets.

I'm only speculating here, but I'm willing to bet that the dozen police officers that flanked the democratic mayor of DC were his exempt political appointees.
This is the usual photo op that most liberal politicians use to garner support from the average citizen. A politician also will use a recent news story that involves a tragic shooting in order to prove the urgency of the existing gun ban or the introduction of stricter gun control measures. DC and Chicago have some of the strictest gun laws in the country but still are the most violent. Criminals do not abide by the law, Law abiding citizens do. This is an undisputed fact. Based on this fact you can confidently conclude that only criminals will have guns where law abiding citizens are denied them.
According to our own department the homicide rate is down 8% compared to a year ago and they credit that decline in "an active effort to keep handguns off the street".
Ok I'll stipulate to the fact that hard charging coppers are out there chasing criminals who illegally have obtained a handgun. These criminals are being apprehended as a result of ILCS and not MCC. City ordinances are not keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, only law abiding citizens.

If you aren't a member of the NRA and feel that the 2nd Amendment is in danger consider the benefits of membership.

THE BEASTIE BOYS HAVE HELD FREE CONCERTS IN ORDER TO HELP SUPPORT MUMIA ABU-JAMAL.

A LOT OF COPPERS WORK OFF DUTY AT THESE VENUES. GIVE UP THE NIGHT FOR A FALLEN BROTHER.

**********JUSTICE FOR DANIEL FAULKNER**********************************

PASS THIS ALONG

Mumia Abu-Jamal (born Wesley Cook April 24, 1954[3]) is a former Black Panther Party activist, cab driver and local journalist from Philadelphia convicted for the murder of police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981. He is serving a presently undefined sentence of imprisonment at State Correctional Institution - Greene near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in consequence. Originally sentenced to death, that sentence was quashed and resentencing ordered in December 2001 by a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

On December 9, 1981, at approximately 3:55 a.m., Officer Danny Faulkner, a five year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, made a traffic stop at Locust Street near Twelfth Street. The car stopped by Officer Faulkner was being driven by William Cook. After making the stop, Danny called for assistance on his police radio and requested a police wagon to transport a prisoner. Unbeknownst to him, William Cook's brother, Wesley (aka Mumia Abu-Jamal) was across the street. As Danny attempted to handcuff William Cook, Mumia Abu-Jamal ran from across the street and shot the officer in the back. Danny turned and was able to fire one shot that struck Abu-Jamal in the chest; the wounded officer then fell to the pavement. Mumia Abu-Jamal stood over the downed officer and shot him four more times at close range, once directly in the face. Mumia Abu-Jamal was found still at the scene of the shooting by officers who arrived there within seconds. The murderer was slumped against the curb in front of his brother's car. In his possession was a .38 caliber revolver that records showed Mumia had purchased months earlier. The chamber of the gun had five spent cartridges. A cab driver, as well as other pedestrians, had witnessed the brutal slaying and identified Mumia Abu-Jamal as the killer both at the scene and during his trial. On July 2, 1982, after being tried before a jury of ten whites and two blacks, Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of murdering Officer Danny Faulkner. The next day, the jury sentenced him to death after deliberating for two hours. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania heard the defendant's appeals and upheld the conviction on March 6, 1989.

Officer Danny Faulkner joined the ranks of those courageous officers who have given their lives to keep our nation's streets safe and free. Danny and his wife, Maureen, had been married only slightly more than a year. Now, she was left a widow with only her memories of the young officer to comfort her and dreams of the life they could have shared together. Danny and Maureen Faulkner are the real victims of that horrible night in December, 1981. It is for them that we seek justice and the reason this site stands strong today. Thank you Rosco. I've carried a handgun on and off duty since I joined the police department twenty five years ago. I always thought I was one of the good guys. Thanks for setting me straight and pointing out to me my true self. By the way, do you say "baaaa" often? You sound like a stupid sheep.

How about having a law regarding being intoxicated while armed? Being drunk while armed should not be allowed. Do like Texas, no guns in bars. (even for off-duty cops)

Rosco, it is already the weapon of the thug and the guns are already banned in Chicago. Has it stopped the thug from carring a gun on his person? Absolutely not, it just leaves law abiding citizens defenseless. I just returned from Texas by the way, and I inquired about the crime rate there....way down, imagine that. I also heard quite a few stories that recently happened there regarding law abiding citizens defending themselvses and their homes against thugs. Guess who won? They (law abiding citizens) are now considered heroes in their communities. Please let Chicago get concealed carry laws...I have no problem working more overtime handling justified shootings.

Rosco has to be a north sider. He makes no sense whatsoever. Come visit the south side Rosco, you would pray that every cop has his handgun so you can run behind him and hide like a little girl.
