On saturday there was a knock at my door. When I answered it I found a lady standing there with a big smile and campaign literature in hand. The lady wanted to know if I would be supporting Alderman __x__ in the up coming elections. I looked at her sternly and stated "absolutely not". The smile left her face and she thanked me and slowly walked away. I had only wished I would have explained why I wouldn't support the Alderman. Well a few hours later opportunity knocked at my door and this time it was an older gentlemen with literature in hand. The man started his pitch and I cut him off and told him that no way would I support this Alderman __x__. I explained to him that Alderman__x___ is a rubber stamp for the mayor. I told him I was a police officer and that it was a disgrace that we are forced to work without contracts for nearly 3 years at a time.
The guy nodded, walked away and moved to another neighbors house. I saw a few more front yards with the alderman's signs up later that evening. The sad thing is some of these "supporters" are policemen. We have to stop putting these $98,000 a year part-timers in a position to be a rubber stamp for an administration that has no incentive to bargain with us in good faith.

Firefighters endorse Brown
Union rejects Daley; president disagrees
By Dan Mihalopoulos
Tribune staff reporter
Published January 22, 2007
Over the objections of their president, firefighter union officials have decided to oppose Mayor Richard Daley's re-election bid, endorsing Dorothy Brown instead.
The executive board of Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2 voted Friday to back Brown, the clerk of the Cook County Circuit Court, in the Feb. 27 election.
Brown scored points with strong support for funding firefighter pensions and opposition to merit promotions, said Local 2 Political Director Robert Tebbens.

See this FOP?!
Was it supporters of that filthy bitch ginger rugai
Right on!!
Chances are those with the signs are "merit" promotees. I know a few of them in the 19th ward who have been kicked up to detective or sergeant.
Look for their names when (no matter what ward you are in) you get the letter "Cops for (fill in the blank).
Hi Sgt,
I live in the 19th Ward an I am not voting for the existing alderwomen!
Off Topic
I went to the in-service Sgts training the other day and have come to several conclusions.
1) we as sgts are now more responsible than ever...we must be everywhere and know everything.
2)Charles Williams states that we are the most important rank on the job. I wonder if during our next contract negotiations if we can push for a substantial raise. nothing against Lts ( i want to be one, who doesn't) but they do not do a goddam thing and earn over $10,000 more a year than we do. Where is there part of this responsibilty. If we must be responsible for all the people under us pay us.
Sorry, hate to complain but get sick of everything gettin dumped on us. Especially when I see field Lts who walk away with no worries every day.
PS what is with the CAPS training at this thing. What a waste of time. 3 or 4 Sgts out of 20 or so were beat team leaders and everybody has to sit for an hour of this garbage.
i live in the 10th ward and i am not voting for pope (daley and vrdolyak's boy), although i belive all the coppers in 004 that live in the 10th ward are voting for him.

I AM a Lt and the reason we are in that postition is that we did our time as Sgt...and lived to tell about it!!! Hopefully your time will come too my friend and you can look back and say "I remember when...
Sgts. run the Police Dept. Always have and always will. Think about it. On paper, Phil does but who ensures that the troops do everything.
ret'd 10 yrs.............
I guess you are only worried about yourself. No thought about the neighborhood you live in or the people who have to live here. I could tell your a Sgt. No vision. Firemen are very selfish. Not the police. I like to get a better contract but its not up to the aldermen, the city lawyers handle the talks. Boo hoo, cry me a river. If u don't like whats going on do something about it. Get involved u ass.

You sir are an absolute moron! Vision? You're God Damn right Iam a sergeant and the negotiations of all employee's of the City of Chicago are dragged on not due to impasses but as a matter of strategy. Take a civics lesson asshat! The City has no incentive to negotiate in good faith. The employees can't strike and the legislative body (alderman) is a rubber stamp for the administration. We know that the city attorneys negotiate the contracts but at the direction of the Mayor and the blessings of the aldermen. So go ahead and put your alderman's sign in your yard you lemming.
PS Above post was for;

You are correct on all counts SGT but I told you that you had no vision. All you talk about is the contract and not about the community you live in. U are a selfless prick just like the firemen. You are the person who helps divide the rank and file so that the bosses and city could separte us further apart. Let your neighborhood burn in hell so you could get your pay off.

Dear Dick,
The primary purpose of this site is to discuss issues that effect sergeants. The secondary purpose of the site is to discuss issues that effect law enforcement in general. The topic was about campaigning and the lack of independence of our aldermanic system. The topic was intended for general consumption of city employees not specifically residents of my neighborhood. This is why I didn't identify the ward or the alderman.
By the logic of your argument my alderman must be a spectacular representative of my community and I am forgoing that for a "payout".
I feel my alderman makes decisions with the administrations best interests in mind not those of my community.
If you want your alderman reelected great! Be a visionary leader and continue with the status quo. Don't come on this site and presume you know our motives.
Sincerely,
Miserable Prick
Rugai Sucks
Daley won his first mayoral election thanks to the firefighters. He subsequently paid them back by treating them like peasants. "loyalty begets loyalty." To Daley loyalty is a one-way street.
45th ward alderman levar is no different. His attendance as a member of the police fire committee is a disgrace. attendance records can be obtained only a FOIA request. why is that? aldermen are not held accountable.
levar will be the next politician to hand his "elected" office down to a relative, his son, if he is re-elected. Just as lipinski, steele, beavers, stroger, etc has before him. why are we such sheep? is it that we have to walk on eggshells out of fear of retribution? how did these elected officials become so powerful that the entire democratic process has been perverted to meet their needs at our expense?
we have to get back to the concept of "for and by the people."
we can only accomplish this by changing the current players by voting them out. They are bullies who use intimidation tactics to get their way. The only way that the majority receive any benefits from these aldermen is mere coincidence and for their self-preservation. They are not community minded, but selfish and self promoting, power hungry, narcissistic, greedy bottom dwellers. They do not serve the people, they serve themselves.
How can we teach our children any civics lessons when the process is so corrupt?
