Luck? Who needs luck? I used to be partners with Matt Cline! Sgt. D.O.
This is priceless. TPTB sent out a fax regarding the test. Unlike the notice, this now says that we can bring cell phones, pagers, PDA's, mini computers and similar electronic devices. Only they "must be turned off and may not be accessed in any way at any time while in facility."What kind of crap is this? Didn't people complain about people using thier phones in the bathrooms during the Sgt's exam? I guarantee there will be a few who will violate this and nothing will be done. And so it goes....
HB4967 & SB2586
Who or what is the posting of 0900?? hb4967 etc. It's on the other related blog sites too.
You know, I would have a lot more respect if the powers that be would take care of their guys by making them meritorious. Why have "special" study groups that result in many of them scoring near the top so that they will be promoted off the list? First of all, if you are in a position of power, why not take care of your people? If you don't do it, some other politician will put his guys in. Better yours than his. Most importantly, though, is that by having these "special" individuals score high on the list, you are bumping the guys that studied their asses off down on the list far enough that some will never be promoted. On top of that, you allow the meritorious spots to be given to other connected people, thus taking more than the thirty percent when you add it all up. Just let the bosses' kids and the aldermen's family take the merit spots and let the rest of us take the test and rank where our scores determine.
Hey SCS,How about getting rid of the word verification like SCC did. What a pain in the ass it is to type a word you can't even read half the time!
Took the test. It seemed to be strictly a civilian operation. No sworn involved other than providing hall guards. No sworn proctors either. Could it be that this test will finally be on the up and up?
I wasted all my time studying. There was no point. I would have done just as good had I come in unprepared. What a joke. No questions about rocedure or about taking action as a lieutenant at all. Icann tell you what to do in an HBT, a Police shooting, death in custody, drunk copper, etc.. All in 90 seconds or under. Oh wait, all I have to do is say no to the Deputy. Had I only known......
2 posts in 4 days. Wow SCS, what an exciting blog.
to Sat Jan 06, 01:45:00 PM the reason for this is to increase the clout babies. If they can get the sons in off the list then they save the merit promotion for the clout babies that are too stupid to pass. This increases the merit boys from 30% of the promotion to close to 60% or better. thus ensuring the ineptness will continue for another generation at least.

All the tests I've taken since the early 90's have all been administered by civilians, be it anderson consulting, price watehouse, etc..
I thought the first part (In-basket) started out a little challenging but got easier as you neared the end of the in-basket. They used fictitious gangs, streets, nicknames and such, which made it like policing a different town. This made it a little tough as I was not familiar at all with the territory. I almost ran out of time. The oral portion I thought was easier than expected. I think they put way too much stuff in the study list that was not going to be touched on. Overall, I think it was a fair test.

I recently served as a proctor for a promotional test. I am sworn. I thought it would be similar because it was the oral portion of the Traffic Specialist exam. It was tape recorded as well. I thought that maybee a Lt. would be in the room during our oral. I'm glad it was a civilian.
