NEW SERGEANTS?

Prior to the last class of sergeants we accurately guessed to the week the promotion of new sergeants based on the date that merit candidates were required.
We can only guess that the merit process will be complete soon if it is not already. Shortly there after a list of personnel to attend detective familiarization will be created. Does it really take 3 months to complete this process? The newly trained "detectives" will be joined by existing detectives that are to be promoted for pre-sergeants training. Our best guess has the "D" training beginning in 2-4 weeks and lasting 3 months and the pre-sergeants training lasting 6 weeks. Bottom line has the new sergeants on the street 20-22 weeks from now.
Reduce the "D" training to 2 weeks and the new sergeants are out on or before 1 July when we could really use them.

Yes, thank you SCS for the post.....We need new sergeants badly in the CPD. They are short sgts in many districts. I presume that they will promote at least 100 in this new class starting soon. As far as the "D" training goes, they could do it in 30-45 days for real.

Signed,

Sgt. BeenThere A. Dunnit

The supe is either going to work fast to get his picks in, or was told by the mayor not to do make any promotions until he is replaced. The next supe might have a whole new set of rules for D unit training. Taking into account what we need and getting it out there in a timely manner is the farthest thing from anyone's mind at 35th/City Hall.

Your suggestion is a sound one, SCS. The Det. training for the Sgts. is AT LEAST 4 WEEKS TOO LONG.
We need those new Sgts. as fast as we can get them on the streets. Knowing how this Dept. is, at least a thrid of them will have squirreled themselves away back in units within the first 4 weeks after they're assigned to Districts anyway.

A word of advice from the new Sgt's when they do get in the field. You should keep your mouth shut, and your ears open. Don't complain about working 1st watch, or working a late car, or having to work the desk ect.ect. You are the new guy/gal wait your turn as we all have, (unless your hooked up) and if you are, just shut the fuck up, make your phone call, and leave.

also, have a wonderful day

we are only short about 56 Sgt. so don't expect more than 50.

The results for the lieutenant’s exam will be released around Memorial Day.

The question however is what will be done about all the screw-ups with the oral/tape recorded portion?

Sounds like another potential lawsuit my fellow “sergeant's-for-life”. Perhaps we should start lawyer shopping and get our ducks in a row.

A BUDDY OF MINE TOLD ME THAT WHEN HE TALKED TO PERSONNEL AND HE IS IN THE TOP 50 THAT THEY ARE BUDGETED FOR 54 SGTS AT THIS POINT.

A few months ago at Sgt training in Near North, Charles Williams told us after they made the Sgt class they were already 100 down. He wants more.

Heard it in the elevator at 35th St last week, 100-120 new sgts to begin the D training by the end of April and will be graduating right after Labor day. We need them, so lets get the ball rolling!

How long does it take to pick up a telephone?

It normally takes about 4-5 weeks to process the "merit" picks. But this time I will be willing to bet that the process will move a lot faster because of the changes coming in the Sup's office. I agree with the poster that says the end of April that the sgts class will begin. Time....is on your side for a change!!

They usually keep the Sgts classes to around 50 people.

Sergeants class usually is 50 but first class off a list is usually +100 and we know of classes that were over 50 and they weren't the first one off the list.

A new class of 54 the end of April, anyone know if this is true?
